Currently showing at the Teatro Santander in São Paulo as part of the venue’s tenth-anniversary celebrations, this is the first musical biography dedicated to the life and work of Gilberto Gil.

Featuring a script by Newton Moreno and directed by Miguel Falabella—who also shares associate directing duties with Bárbara Guerra—the show begins with the artist’s exile in London. It then revisits his formative years in the Bahian “sertão”, the vibrant atmosphere of Salvador, and the Tropicalia revolution, all guided by the character “Tempo-Rei” (King Time), who bridges the young Gil and the mature Gil.

Following an audition process that drew over 800 candidates, Gui Ventura—an actor, singer, and songwriter from Minas Gerais—was chosen to portray Gilberto Gil. He shares the stage with key figures from the artist’s journey, such as Caetano Veloso and Maria Bethânia, in a major production featuring a cast of 34 performers who transform classics like “Andar com Fé,” “Aquele Abraço,” and “Drão” into a sensitive and vibrant portrait of Brazilian music.
